Depoe Bay, Oregon Coast
Foraged ingredients, hyper-local farms, and progressive technique — in service of something that tastes unmistakably of this place.
Our Philosophy
Restaurant Beck opened in Depoe Bay in 2009 with a simple foundation: farm and ocean to table cooking on the Oregon Coast. Over time that evolved to include foraged ingredients — mushrooms, sea vegetables, coastal plants — found within miles of this kitchen. Seafood comes directly from Newport’s commercial fishermen when they have product. Located minutes from Newport on the central Oregon Coast, Beck draws from the richest stretch of coastline in the Pacific Northwest. The menu moves with what’s available and at its peak — shaped by the season, not the calendar.
The Chef’s Story →The Setting
Restaurant Beck sits on the headland above Whale Cove, a protected habitat refuge on the central Oregon Coast. The dining room faces the water, and the terrace runs out above the rock, so the cove is in front of you through dinner.
Depoe Bay is the whale watching capital of the Oregon Coast, and the cove is one of the places gray whales come closest to shore. Through the summer they feed just beyond the surf line. In winter the weather turns and the swell breaks against the headland below the windows — the light goes silver, and the room fills with it.
It changes all evening. Fog burning off the water, the tide working through the cove, the tree line going dark on the far point while the sky is still bright. We think it is the best view from any restaurant on the Oregon Coast, and we have never been talked out of it.
